Is Beijing Becoming the New New York City for Worldwide Entrepreneurs?

New York City Business
"If you can make it here you can make it anywhere" is the famous saying about New York City by everyone from start-up entrepreneurs to rap superstars. New York City is the mecca of business worldwide but a new competitor in Beijing is quickly becoming another powerful mecca from entertainment and sports to finance and manufacturing.

This of course by no means is saying the NYC is loosing its luster but it isn't exactly the best place to start a business anymore with studio apartments reaching the few thousand a month range and that doesn't include the sky-high taxes and everyday food expenses. In today's business world you have to pinch pennies to make it and if you can eliminate a few thousand a month by moving your business to another smaller market or even moving it to another country it may be your best option depending on your situation.

I found it interesting that many people from countries such as India, China, and Brazil are returning home to their home countries to find opportunities  and found it even more interesting that many of the United States top talent are also trying out these markets. In the NY Times article "Reverse Brain Drain" it talked about foreign companies recruiting at major universities in the United States primarily going after foreign students but from time to time recruit employees away from some of the top firms in major US markets. In the video a guy named Nick Topjian speaks about the opportunities in foreign markets but also mentioned that these markets may not be for everyone as you must know the culture and the language to actually even have  a faction of a chance to survive.

After doing a lot of research on markets that a great to start businesses I guess it really comes down to are the major markets really still the best no matter if it is New York City in the west or China in the east because if you can operate in a smaller but still major market in either country you still have access to the internet, office space, and more. So yes NYC is still tough and always has been fairly tough for business owners but at the same time Beijing isn't exactly a walk in the park especially for those who are not originally from China.
